With their punk-rock attitude and ass-shaking upbeat music, Cuban B stands out as a third wave ska leader in Israel. The first band ever to play this genre in Israel, Cuban B has paved the way for other ska bands to come. Their angry guitars, groovy beats and burning brass section form a unique performance and sound which has been praised by both crowds and critics.
Cuban B began its journey three years ago, in Ramat Ha'Sharon, a suburb of Tel Aviv, Israel. Danuki, the band's bass player, was looking for talented musicians in his high school to start a third wave ska band. "No one really knew what I was talking about, but then I met Liat . She had been a ska fan for ages," says Danuki. Danuki and Liat worked together for two years before the band changed its line-up and the current Cuban B was formed.
For the past three years, the group has toured extensively across Israel, performing in almost every known venue. The Cubans have played in a long list of major festivals including Israel's biggest, Boombamella, to which they have been invited every year, as well as Beer City Rock Festival, the Tel-Aviv municipality's top outdoor summer event. Their spirit is fresh and their sound draws inspiration from ska bands such as Catch 22, Dance Hall Crashers and Reel Big Fish (who promoted a Cuban B cover on their MySpace page in August 2006). "We like happy music, keeping it danceable and excellent," the band members say. The band recently returned from its first international tour, crossing Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and France. Reactions for the Cubans' music were excellent and they gained great new audience.
Cuban B's debut album is an explosive Ska-Punk of the Third Wave. Many claim they remind the good ol' Dancehall Crashers. Cuban B has toured europe last year promoting the album, and currently operating in Califronia.
